Many families feel overwhelmed trying to tidy up clutter while balancing work and other responsibilities. We’re developing a safe household robot that drives around the house, picks up toys and clothing off the floor, and organizes them into containers.

You will be coming to join a tight-knit tribe of trailblazers who are passionate about creating groundbreaking, cutting-edge smart home assistants. We’re proud to call the coolest little capital of the world our home: Wellington, New Zealand.

About the Role

Clutterbot is looking for a senior mechanical engineer to deliver our consumer robotics platform to market. Our ideal candidate will be an excellent systems thinker who isn’t afraid to get stuck into a challenging problem and provide solutions that meet and exceed expectations.

You have designed robotic products and taken them to market. You are a strong, passionate mechanical engineer with experience in designing and manufacturing parts for injection molding, gearboxes, actuators, and other electromechanical components.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Optimize the design, while providing mentoring and support to the team, around mechanical design of worm, bevel, and compound gearboxes and actuators.
  • Ensure accurate and complete product specifications, 2D drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements for suppliers.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with local and international suppliers and work together to find solutions in the development of consumer robotics.
  • Validation testing of electromechanical systems to ensure repeatability and accuracy of desired outputs.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and use quality control, preventive maintenance, and lean production to reduce defects, downtime, and waste.
  • Providing guidance, mentorship, and engineering best practices within the team.
  • Ensure product life requirements are met to ensure customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and product sustainability are maintained.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant career experience in mechanical and consumer product design.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or in a related Engineering discipline (preferred).

  • Excellent research and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with the interpretation of design standards.
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision in a timely manner.
