We are seeking a capable Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will collaborate with various council departments, including Planning and Resource Consents, Building Consent, Licensing and Compliance, Resilience and Insurance, Park and Community Facilities, Healthy Waters, etc. to improve information sharing and service delivery. You will establish and maintain relationships with key service providers across the council family to provide technical support and advice. Key Responsibilities: Support in assessing consents by providing geotechnical engineering advice within required timeframes. This involves evaluating applications against the Resource Management Act, Building Act, building code, Auckland Unitary Plan, Bylaws, Council's Codes of Practice, and relevant industry standards to ensure high-quality compliance. Provide professional assessments on compliance matters to enable effective decision-making and work collaboratively with stakeholders for positive outcomes. Record natural hazards and assist on imposing or uplifting Section 73 hazard notices. Undertake geotechnical engineering design reviews of externally provided designs if/where required before tender to reduce risk and cost to Auckland Council and improve the way geotechnical work is procured. Assist with responding to "one off" emergency responses/recovery for geotechnical events such as landslides as required, including provision of advice on remediation measures. Apply risk management policies and practices appropriately, complete timesheets daily, resolve issues at first contact within delegations, escalate issues to the People Lead when necessary, and adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct. He korero mou: About you You will need to hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field (For example, a Master of Science, Engineering Geology), with work experience in either a consultancy or public sector environment focused on geotechnical design, reviews and project management. We are ideally looking for candidates with at least five years of experience in geotechnical investigations, land development, and building activities within New Zealand.
