An exciting, new position has opened in our kura for 2025. We are looking for a proven leader to join our Manu Tāiko Tīma as Tumauki Taunaki - Deputy Principal (SENCo). If you are looking to develop yourself into a Tumuaki, this is the job for you.

Te Uru Karaka Newton Central School Y0–6 is set in the inner city, but our landscape makes our kura dynamic and different from the surrounding schools. We are surrounded by native trees with a forest running through the school. Our kura provides three pathways, Te Puāwaitanga (English Medium), Awahou (Dual Immersion) and Te Uru Karaka (Māori Medium). Te Uru Karaka Newton Central School’s vision statement: Aroha mai, Aroha atu, Mana mai, Mana atu – says that when we demonstrate respect and love for ourselves, we can demonstrate respect and love for others, and underpins everything we do at our kura.

As an inner-city school, we are:

  • Committed to our strong bicultural partnership in recognition of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Committed to collaboration and innovation
  • Living by the school vision: Aroha mai, Aroha atu, Mana mai, Mana atu
  • Passionate about ongoing improvement and inclusivity.

Key responsibilities:

  • SENCO and Pastoral Care
  • Act in the role of Principal in conjunction with the other Deputy Principal if the Principal is away
  • Commitment to the Newton Central School co-governance model and Tiriti based practice
  • Maintain clear and transparent communication with all staff members and community
  • Implementation, overseeing and reporting on the targets set out in our Annual Plan

We encourage school visits so you can get a sense of our beautiful kura. Looking forward to hearing from you.
