Gravity Cellars is both a wine retail shop (cellar door) and a restaurant in a stunning location. We are looking for a new Assistant Manager to take on the role of 3IC, a keyholder role. This role would suit someone like a Sommelier or Chef looking to step into a management role. Duties would include: Overseeing the smooth operation of dual functional licensed premises, ensuring both cellar door duties (retail, selling) and restaurant duties (management of hospitality venue) are performed to a high standard of service. Work with a small team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the cellar door and consistently good service to customers. Some sole charge days will be needed. To prepare the cellar door for opening and ensure the business is presentable. Liaise with the Chef on daily food offerings, have sound knowledge of food items, prepare, and print menus for the day. Drive wine sales by having a sound knowledge of both New Zealand and international wines; there are 5 different wine brands in our portfolio. Operate POS systems, cash management and manage daily reconciliations. Foster a happy and calm work environment, and ensure your team are trained and efficient in service. Host, assist and serve customers in all forms of service, whether at the table or when buying wines to take away. Assist the General Manager and Restaurant Manager with ordering stock, assist in monthly stock takes and update systems. Keep up to date with new wines, attend regional wine tastings. Build rapport with new customers and maintain good relationships with regular customers. To oversee the cellar door and restaurant operations and achieve or exceed set and agreed expectations. Knowledge and experience required in the following: Wine sales POS Merchandising Customer service Order of service Reservation systems Qualification in hospitality or business management advantageous WSET Level 2 or above is highly advantageous. Must have 5 years or more similar experience. Must be available to work weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings. In return we offer: Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
