We are a kaupapa Maori trust based in Tahuna (Queenstown), New Zealand. We deliver a range of services across five core pou; Health and Social Services, Rangatahi Services, Employment/Training Services, Te Ao Maori and Mahi Taiao. Mana Tahuna has the privilege of creating a safe, supportive environment for our whanau to connect, grow, be healthy and thrive as Maori in Tahuna. Fulfilling our mission to manaaki tangata - we provide a range of pastoral care, youth services and rehabilitative services to all whanau in Queenstown-Lakes.
We are seeking a culturally sensitive and dedicated Social Worker or Health & Social Coordinator to join our team to work 32 hours per week. This role will play a vital part in providing support and assistance to whanau within our Queenstown-Lakes community. Your primary responsibility will be to assess the social and cultural needs of clients, develop personalised intervention plans, and implement strategies to support the enhancement of their overall well-being.
This role will work alongside our Rangatahi leads to help plan, carry out and report on our Rangatahi and whanau social services. You will also work alongside the Mana Tahuna Charitable Trust leadership team and several external stakeholders to ensure whanau and rangatahi are well supported, feel safe and comfortable, mentally stable and succeeding in society.
Tasks will include:
Work alongside priority clients/families to identify support.
Advocate and support clients/families to get the help they need.
Conduct assessments using appropriate approaches to understand the unique needs and challenges faced by our clients.
Engage with rangatahi, whanau, kura, government agencies and community.
Be a strong advocate for our clients, ensuring their rights, needs, and cultural identity are respected and upheld within the Trust and the broader community.
Support whanau in drug and alcohol counselling with the goal to support the total rehabilitation of all our whanau using this service.
Provide mentorship and guidance for re-employment and training.
Report client progress to Mana Tahuna Charitable Trust management and Government agencies.
Maintain accurate and culturally sensitive client records, progress notes, and reports while adhering to confidentiality and privacy regulations.
The skills, attitudes and knowledge required for this position are as follows:
Qualification(s) and accreditation in Social Work (or working towards) preferred.
Experience working in a similar role with rangatahi and whanau in a community or social services setting.
Experience in Drug and Alcohol support preferred.
Proficiency in te reo Maori and understanding of te ao Maori and tikanga preferred.
Ability to operate effectively within a kaupapa Maori environment or ability to learn.
Have a whanau-centered approach.
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to building trust.
Able to plan, organise and report on all social services mahi.
Uphold the highest ethical standards and maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with sensitive client information.
Hold a current full New Zealand Drivers License.
Ability to pass a Police background check.
