Nursing Director

The Nursing Director is expected to demonstrate advanced nursing knowledge ideally in a palliative care practice and business acumen in managing staff resources and supplies to achieve clinical best practice and cost-efficient services.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing innovative approaches to problem solving and utilizing the skills of team members to coordinate and resolve problems, demonstrating understanding of when to escalate issues to the CEO.
- Communicating effectively with all members of the nursing team and broader hospice team both verbally and in written form.
- Listening to colleagues and respecting their contributions.
- Exhibiting self-awareness and understanding the importance of sector self-care.
Person Specifications
- Registered Nurse with Nursing Council NZ and hold a current APC.
- Understanding of the local Southland and Queenstown populations is desirable.
- At least 5 years of management and leadership experience, preferably in palliative care.
- Ideally holds postgraduate nursing qualifications.
- Expert PDRP level 4 or working towards achieving this.
- Advanced learning and contemporary knowledge in either palliative care, aged residential care, hospital care, or GP practice management experience.
- Exhibiting a personal style of management that reflects strong awareness of personal strengths and limitations, sensitive to individual and cultural diversity.
- Well-developed advocacy skills in respect of patients, family, whānau members, and staff.
- Able to ethically delegate to other staff and colleagues.
- Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively within the Senior Management team and wider organization.
- Excellent change management skills and proven ability to lead others through change.
- Prepared to work in the spirit of Hospice philosophy.
- Living the hospice values.
- A healthy sense of humour and fun.
