Your work will contribute to the production of high-quality New Zealand pork that is sold from the farm to NZ meat sales. Employer operates a high health status closed piggery from breeding to finishing â incorporating two farms 20 minutes apart.
Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.

Scope of Work / Responsibilities but not limited to:

Capacity to identify stock requiring assistance if unwell/showing signs of illness and ability to medicate accordingly.
To identify and work alongside farrowing sows both pre and post farrowing â care for the sow/feed ration and identifying if need of any additional care during pregnancy like heat detection/ultrasound
Learn to work with Gilts, dry sows, identifying daily requirements.
Identifying of return sows, capacity to know if feed needs increased and be solutions focused if problems in farrowing area for sows occur.
This role requires awareness, being alert on the job, attention to detail and hands on operation and ability to think quickly and assess feed ratios of each sow individually.
Monitoring and recording feed lines to pens before and during feeds and end of the day.
Responsible for monitoring and recording of growth data. Analysing with Farm Manager at weekly meeting. Identifying and implementing any solutions required.
Some sole charge areas will be apportioned as see appropriate.
Assisting in transferring /selecting pigs for commercial market slaughter.
Attention to detail to provide sanitary cleaning and disinfection during working week as required to maintain high health status on pig farm â water blasting of pens.
Movement of all stock must be undertaken with the applicant showing good stockmanship (how to move, handle, transfer, identify illness, care and treat illness, monitor growth rates).
Contribute to audit regulations by assisting in the daily cleanliness of the inside and outside of the piggery to ensure any spot audit or planned audit standards are also met. Guidelines will be discussed during work inductions.
Health and safety â this role requires ability to think logically and understand communication is critical to detect, correct and also bring to attention of the owner and staff as required areas that require correction around the farms. It is important the person in this role understand the responsibility of health and safety on farms including machinery operation. This will again be discussed at induction but also at ongoing farm meeting which the person in this role us expected to contribute to.
Training and required additional skills shall be discussed and identified by both the employer but also the employee with a focus on training to provide more skills in the role.
Involved in milling of diets for the piggery â weaner, sow piglets, grower and identifying when feed levels in silos are required to be replaced.
Identifying when on farm items need to be ordered or stock is running low and advising manager.
General tasks also included but are not limited to: Inspecting and reporting unwell animals/moving sows/weaning piglets/cutting teeth and tails of piglets/iodine treatment/vaccination of pigs as required/supporting other staff as required/contributing to farm good practices and ability to voice thought on improvements. Keeping staff room and work areas tidy at all times.
Using the farm machinery as required for duties on farm being driving tractor and buckey
