Service: Otolaryngology (Ears, Nose and Throat - ENT) Service

Contract: Part time 33 hours p/w, Fixed term 3 months, starting 6 June 2025 - 8 September 2025

We are looking for General Otolaryngologists to cover sabbatical leave (we may have more FTEs starting early 2025).

The successful applicants will be highly motivated team players and will enjoy a very collegial relationship. The role is based at Wellington Regional Hospital; however, the successful candidate will be expected to work across the greater Wellington region in line with a current change to establish a sub-regional ENT service.

The position will involve a range of acute and elective general ORL surgery. Applications from post-fellow or experienced surgeons with a sub-specialty area of interest, particularly in Otology, are welcomed.

Some undergraduate teaching is expected, as well as supervision and teaching of registrars in the otolaryngology training rotation.

The department currently consists of ten general and subspecialist surgeons who provide a wide range of services to the greater Wellington region and tertiary level care for the wider region. Current recruitment to the sub-regional service will see the team increase to 11 surgeons.

These include general otolaryngology, rhinology and anterior skull base surgery, otology, lateral skull base and acoustic neuroma surgery, cochlear implantation, paediatric otolaryngology, and head and neck surgery. We work in close collaboration with oncology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, paediatric and neurosurgery services. Suitable candidates will have opportunities for research.

1. Vocationally registered in Otolaryngology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
2. FRACS or equivalent to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
3. Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
4. Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
5. Relevant experience and training
