About the Role

We are seeking a General Surgeon to join our Surgical team on a full-time permanent basis. We are looking for a surgeon who demonstrates a commitment to high quality care, collegiality, teamwork, teaching and leadership in the field. The successful candidate will manage a wide range of General Surgical conditions and be expected to fully participate in the General Surgical on call roster (1:10) and manage acute patients. An experienced endoscopist for both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures would be an advantage. Interest or post-fellowship training in Trauma or Breast would be an advantage.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The General Surgical and Vascular team is part of a close knit and supportive medical community within the Hawke’s Bay district. Our team is committed to providing a high quality of care to the Hawke’s Bay population. There is a strong collegial attitude, supportive teamwork and active commitments to ongoing education and service improvements. We are a department of ten General Surgeons plus a Vascular Surgeon, working alongside our junior medical staff and clinical nurse specialists.

About you

Applicants should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Be registered, or eligible for registration, with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist General Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, or equivalent.
  • Hold an approved higher qualification in Surgery, enabling Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
