The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whanau, hapu and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.About the roleWe are seeking a positive and self-motivated leader to join our team as a Biodiversity Coordinator, focused on supporting the systems and processes for prioritisation, allocation, delivery and review of biodiversity work across the Chathams Wairarapa District.As Biodiversity Coordinator you will monitor and report on budgets and be involved in bigger picture planning and collaboration with the Biodiversity Senior Ranger.You will assist with monitoring and review of non-financial information, monitoring performance and identifying emerging issues.This role will also require you to provide advice to Rangers to facilitate the consistent capture and recommendation of work which is aligned with the annual work plan.Skills and experienceThe successful applicant will have experience in project management and a good understanding of procurement processes.If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:Understanding of biodiversity conservation management principles, and DOC biodiversity direction and field operationsGood analytical skills, identifies anomalies and issues, recommends solutionsUnderstanding of financial processes and ways to use resources efficientlyProficient user of SAP and MS Office applicationsSkilled in working with experts to understand technical advice and applying and communicating technical information clearlyExcellent communication and leadership skillsProven high level experience with Microsoft Office suite, GIS and other systemsOutstanding planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail and commitment to achieving team objectivesA strong commitment to health and safety work practicesGood financial management and proven ability to work within a budgetWorking in partnership with community groups, volunteers, iwi, whanau, and hapuExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsFull New Zealand Driver's LicenceAbility to occasionally travel to Chatham IslandsDesirable:A tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience and achievements, in conservation / ecology / biology.Current first Aid certificateFirearms LicenceWhat's in it for you?DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.We're working towards being an organisation that is diverse, equitable and inclusive by default.
