Awanui Labs - Canterbury (previously known as Canterbury SCL) is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. Awanui Labs – Canterbury is a community-based diagnostic laboratory.
About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Microbiology Department is currently looking for an enthusiastic and competent Medical Laboratory Scientist or Trained Medical Laboratory Technician (80 hours per fortnight). This is a fixed-term position to provide parental leave cover from Nov 2024 to July 2025.
This role requires participation in general microbiology duties and may include:

Preparing and plating specimens
Examination and interpretation of culture plates
Automated and manual identification and susceptibility testing
Undertaking quality control testing and reporting
Equipment and laboratory environment maintenance

To succeed in this role, you will need | Kia angitu, me whai koe i:

To be registered with the NZ Medical Sciences Council
Hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate, or be eligible to apply for one immediately (note provisional registration is acceptable)
New graduates with microbiology placement experience are welcome to apply
An understanding of the principles, techniques, and methods used in microbiology
Attention to detail
Excellent communication skills
Ability to follow procedures and work in a busy environment
