The Department of Pathology is one of eight departments within the Dunedin School of Medicine Dunedin. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical and health science student teaching and supervision of postgraduate research students.

The Department houses several internationally recognised research groups and has six major research areas including Cancer Biology, Clinical Pathology, Development, Genetics and Epigenetics, Haematology and Immunotherapy.

**_ The role/Te mahi_**

As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will undertake laboratory work on a Health Research Council Grant investigating the role of a p53 isoform in cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
- Key tasks of the role include:

- Culturing primary immune cells and cell lines.
- Assisting in teaching new students and staff in laboratory conduct.
- Animal tissue collections, human tissue collection, carrying out in vitro analysis, including but not limited to flow cytometry analysis, and histological staining/analysis.
- Data collection and result analysis.
- Manage animal colonies and relative administrative tasks.

**_ Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Relevant experience and a suitable tertiary qualification are essential - research experience in cell biology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology biochemistry, genetics or a related discipline.
- Experience in the relevant techniques, particularly in animal handling and manipulation, culturing primary immune cells, and multi-colour flow cytometric analysis is highly desirable.
- An ability to work independently and to progress the project to completion.
- Ability to maintain accurate experimental records and data analysis.
- Computer literacy particularly in data management and analysis.

As this is role involves collaborative work, you are expected to have well-developed interpersonal communication skills and have the ability to write clearly and contribute to the preparation of research manuscripts.
