**Te āheinga: The opportunity**

As the Student Advocate you'll provide independent support and advocacy for Unitec Students who are confronted by issues that are impacting their ability to successfully complete their education related goals. This service for students aims to resolve any problems that arise. You'll do this through conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation. The Student Advocate is there to initially assist and support the member rather than to act on the member's behalf.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You'll have:

- An understanding or desire to learn te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and the values and practices of kaupapa Māori
- Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces/environments
- Proven ability to work effectively, communicate and build strong working relationships with people from diverse ethnic, age, gender, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Recent/current understanding of the tertiary education environment, assessment procedures and dispute processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in policy development. A Bachelor of Law qualification or equivalent (inclusive of Senior Law Students, a background in advocacy or policing/law enforcement) is desirable but not essential.
