Our Centre is responsible for providing quality early childhood education services to preschool-aged children in Flat Bush. We follow the Learning through Play philosophy. The role of the ECE Teacher is to plan and guide the child’s educational and developmental journey using Te Whāriki as the base.

We are looking for an ECE teacher to join our team. Our values are kindness, fairness and empathy.

The role of this position is to work closely with other ECE Teachers in our Centre, and our Supervising Teacher. Key stakeholders are with children and their parents/caregivers/guardians/whanau/fono.

**Expected Outcomes**

Learning and Teaching
- are proficient in the content of Te Whāriki
- evaluate and implement developments in current learning, pedagogy and assessment theories
- demonstrate commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, te reo and tikanga Māori and display cultural competencies
- design and implement appropriate curriculum assessment and evaluation practices that are consistent with the principles of Te Whāriki
- evaluate and reflect on teaching and learning with a view to improvement
- ability to support diverse learners

Learning Environment
- demonstrate effective positive guidance / social competency strategies
- demonstrate competent practices in facilitating children’s engagement in learning
- create and maintain a safe, stimulating, and high-quality classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- establish high expectations that value and promote learning
- maintain and promote positive relationships with children that respect their individuality, culture and place in their community
- is an advocate for high quality health and safety practice for adults and children and proactively seeks and works to eliminate identified health and safety issues/hazards
- takes responsibility for sourcing and maintaining appropriate resources for the learning environment that engage children in learning

Communication
- communicate clearly and accurately in at least one of the official languages of Aotearoa/ New Zealand
- communicate effectively - formally and informally - with children, colleagues, family/whanau and caregivers
- provide regular feedback that contributes to the child’s learning pathway via centre-specific processes
- involve parents/whanau in the Centre programme and establish a learning partnership that includes parents’ aspirations for their child
- display ethical and responsible behaviour
- mentors others in health and safety best practice, including accurate reporting, recording and reviewing of reports
- demonstrates effective communication within the team. Proactively handles any significant communication issues in a timely and professional manner
- requests support from Centre Manager as appropriate

Support for and Co-operation with Colleagues
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
- encourage others and participate in professional development
- supports the Centre Manager in prioritising the management of the Centre and in inducting new staff and students

Contribution to Wider Centre Operations
- contribute to the life of the Centre, its children, parents and community
- you are required to take a reasonable degree of responsibility for your own health and safety, and that of others.
- You are expected to adhere to the Education Council’s Code of Professional Responsibility

Centre Administration
- maintain accurate records in relation to Centre administrative requirements
- proficient in using ICT systems
- is conversant with Te Whāriki and all relevant national documentation such as Tataiako, the connection between Te Whāriki and the National Curriculum, and be aware of pedagogical theories.
- participates in regular review of the Statements of Teaching practice and other Centre procedures and practices
- participates in regular documented staff meetings

Professional Learning
- displays an ongoing commitment to extending and updating their own professional learning
- maintains their teacher registration and certification through compliance with the Education Council’s Standards for the Teaching Profession

Nurturing and Care
- interactions with children are warm and nurturing and intended to foster a trusting and respectful relationship.
- Interactions with children are based on their rights to protection and promotion of their health and wellbeing
- All learning opportunities must be equitable and respectful of their interests, capabilities, and dispositions.

Person Specification
- Teacher registration from the Education Council (Provisional or Full)
- Be physically capable of performing the requirements of the job
- Able to successfully pass a safety check in accordance with the standards required under the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2014

**Salary**: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour
