Marine Fitter

Our client is a leading provider of marine repairs, refits, and maintenance services supporting a variety of vessels and marine structures. Based in Whangarei, their business is an integral part of the marine industry, servicing clients throughout New Zealand and Australasia.

**The Role**
They are currently seeking an enthusiastic Marine Fitter & Turner to join their team. The role involves conducting mechanical engineer repairs on vessels, machinery, and other industrial structures.
- Perform general engineering and fitting maintenance on vessel components such as shafts, rudders, seals, valves, and pumps.
- Carry out repair work and machining of new replacement parts.
- Conduct general maintenance on machinery, drive and pump systems.
- Fabrication work may be required at times.
- Collaborate with client representatives, vessel surveyors, project managers, and foreman.
- Assist in rigging and dogging crane lifts.
- Adhere to onsite health and safety requirements.
- Work effectively alongside various departments and third parties.

**The Essentials**
- Relevant trade qualification.
- Proficiency in using a lathe or mill.
- Ability to measure and identify different threads and use a pipe threading machine.
- Knowledge of running pipework through vessels and working in confined spaces.
- Competency in using drilling machines and power hand tools.
- Ability to identify and change out different types of bearings.
- Reading engineering drawings and basic pipe schematics.
- Knowledge of PVC, gluing, and tube bending.
- Experience working independently and mentoring junior staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to Health and Safety protocols.
- Experience in hydraulics and pneumatics is advantageous.
