Hon James Shaw, Minister of Climate Change, Associate Minister for the Environment (Biodiversity) and Green Party Co-Leader is seeking a Senior Press Secretary to join his team at a busy and exciting time. This crucial role supports Minister Shaw at the heart of communicating the Government's climate change policies and initiatives, to the New Zealand public.
The role of Senior Press Secretary requires you to understand and communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, through a variety of channels. As an experienced communications professional, you will be comfortable monitoring, reflecting on, and improving the amount and nature of the Minister's media coverage and social media content.
You will have a background in the media, communications, and/or public relations combined with a strong understanding of issues and initiatives of importance to the Minister and his portfolio areas. Supporting the wider team is also essential to ensure communications are clear, informative, and timely, and public events the Minister is associated with are successful.
Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga are increasingly highly sought skills and requirements within both the public service and private sector. You will have an awareness of and ideally the ability to work in te ao Māori environments as well as an understanding of what it means to build meaningful and effective Māori Crown relationships under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Some travel with the Minister is expected. A full driver's licence would be advantageous.
It is a necessary requirement of this role to hold a National Security Clearance. There are certain criteria that must be met in this regard.
