**The role**
As an Intermediate Software Engineer incorporating DevOps, this role is a very attractive career progression opportunity.
Our client states that Software and DevOps Engineers of all levels work in a team alongside each other, which means they have regular interaction and guidance from Software and DevOps technical experts. The software team is supported and enabled by the Software Engineering Manager and a team of Senior Engineers and Subject Matter Experts.
In this role you will be involved in the development, implementation, refinement, and commercialisation of software for various projects, ensuring that all software developed aligns with their methodology/standards to ensure consistency of experience, and efficiency across various product lines. Best practice security protocols are applied and continually reviewed to ensure safety and security.
The DevOps part of this role is responsible for creating and improving practices and processes intended to speed up and automate aspects of our software development and test and release cycles, allowing for the continuous development and delivery of software and software updates.
T**he skill composition sort**:
The coding experience is ideally with memory efficient languages such as C/C++, Rust or Go, and we are needing people with:
- Linux development and deployment environment experience
- Standard source control / version control tools (e.g. Git)
- CI / CD tools (Gitlab, Jenkins)
- Proficient with git and git workflows
- Development and deployment workflows (CI, versioning, automated machine configuration/DevOps)
- Software testing practices (Unit, System and Integration testing)
- Well versed in containerisation, VM’s and virtual infrastructure like networking (Docker, VM Ware, Virtual box, QEMU, etc)
- Linux user and sys-admin knowledge (Grub, UEFI, SystemD, SSH, etc)
- Strong scripting and, or programming skills (Bash, Python, etc)
- Working knowledge of IT/Cyber security and security management (Encryption, VPN, SSH, Key management)
- Experience creating and managing DEB packages (APT repository)
- Creating and managing Docker images and operating your own registries
- Confident to learn new languages and technologies.
