The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the rest of the organisation to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and, enable Police’s strategic ambitions.

Increasingly technology is playing a pivotal role in policing and the demand for new or improved digital services is high. To position Police well for the future, we have recently embarked on a significant change to the way we approach technology delivery and as a result have three new Director roles to fill on the ICT Senior Leadership Team.

The Director - Centres of Expertise (ICT) is accountable for the people leadership and development of the common technical competencies within the ICT workforce - development, testing, business & systems analysis, technical programme and project management, and product & agile delivery. These workforces span permanent, contract, and outcome-based supplier relationships to meet the resource needs of Operational, Corporate and Network & Infrastructure Portfolio Directors.

The Director Centres of Expertise is accountable for ensuring that the Centres of Expertise deliver on their core responsibilities in relation to workforce planning, resource allocation, recruitment and onboarding, and talent development.

This role ensures the that each Centre of Expertise has a clear vision for their discipline and a roadmap to evolve towards it. They ensure the practices, tools and methodologies applied by the practice teams remain current and fit for purpose and align with Enterprise frameworks where applicable.

The Director is also a member of the Senior ICT Leadership Team and will contribute to the strategic direction, operational planning, and running of the ICT business unit.

Key Accountabilities:

- Define the vision for each practice including Analysis, Agile & Product Delivery, Development, Project/Programme Management and Testing.
- Drive delivery of outcomes whilst building strong internal and external relationships by aligning and empowering all stakeholders
- Implement capability plans to ensure our people have the skills to be highly effective in their roles
- Ensure that workforce plans are adaptable and can manage shifting organisational needs.
