**Specialist/Yard Worker Position Description**

Otaihanga Zero Waste is a new site based on the Kāpiti Coast working to reduce
the amount of waste entering our landfills. Specifically looking at the reduction of
contruction waste.

The vision for Otaihanga Zero Waste is to create a thriving, vibrant destination for
the community; a collaborative space that supports local resilience, the circular
economy and regeneration that:

- Focuses on providing services up the waste hierarchy (reduce, reuse,

repair, recycle);
- Provides a welcoming space for local Zero Waste organisations and

individuals to collaborate; and
- Is led by the community as to the services provided.

Our aim is to divert as many items as we can from entering landfill and the role
plays an important part in that goal. This will be done through acceptance of
materials for resale or recycling focused on construction and demolition waste.
We will compliment neighbouring services such as the transfer station and green
waste composting.

As a face of Otaihanga Zero Waste you will be committed to promoting
sustainable values and be willing to work in an environment that contains these
values. The role will include welcoming clients and customers, processing/
organising/reselling products, and following Health and Safety systems.

The Reuse Specialist/Yard Worker Role reports to the Site Manager, working
closely with them and other staff to manage the site.

**Part-time (24 hrs/week)
- $56,000 - $60,000 p/a pro rata, depending on experience
- Working days: Wednesday to Saturday
- Saturdays 9am-5pm (8 Hours)
- Other Days and times to be negotiated but operation days are
- Wednesday - Saturday.- Annual leave: Four weeks pro rata
- Reporting to: Site Manager

There will be times when work will be required outside of standard hours; in
these situations, we will provide as much notice as we can so we can make
sure the rest of your hours in your week are balanced with those additional
needs. We also offer time off in lieu and overtime as agreed.

Kāpiti Zero Waste (KZW) to operate the Otaihanga Zero Waste.

**Your tasks and**
**responsibilities**

**Public Drop Off** **/Sales**:

- Working with customers that drop off items that are reusable and
- recyclable- Taking payment for items(sales)
- Support of Manual sorting for customers

**Otaihanga Zero Waste**

**Materials processing**
- Categorising (i.e., treated versus untreated, timber type, windows etc)

and processing timber / building materials (i.e. repairs, de-nailing,
resizing etc) to prepare for retail
- Working within other systems we have for other materials we are able

to process
- Data Collection

**Site Work/Off Site Work**
- Driving and Operating a Fork Lift (Training Provided if necessary)
- Potential Driving and Operating a Class 1 Truck with Hiab (Training
- Provided)- Maintain and ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for our staff

and our clients/customers.

**Health and Safety**:

- Take responsibility for your own workplace safety including personal

wellbeing.
- Ensure that all Health and Safety policies, procedures are followed, and

documents are always completed and always complied.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and good catch/near miss and to

identify hazards.
- Ensure all compliance requirements are actioned.
- Support on-site Health and Safety inductions of new staff, volunteers
- and contractors.- Maintain and ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for our staff

and our clients/customers.
