About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This is a full-time permanent role based in Kāpiti with the Horowhenua Team.

As a Psychologist you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by:

- Working collaboratively with a team around the child, including educators, parents, caregivers and whānau, to enhance understanding about the child and their behaviours.
- Helping the team around the child to make changes to the learning environment so that their behaviour can be more effectively managed, and the situation stabilised. This includes supporting the child to develop more pro-social ways of responding, and improve their participation, wellbeing and learning outcomes.
- Enhancing inclusive practices in early learning services, schools, and other educational settings.
- Providing appropriate specialist assessment and analysis for collaboratively planned evidence informed interventions.
- Working across project work, individual casework, targeted (group) work, and universal (systems level) work.
- Facilitating access to wider services and support, in response to individual needs, for example speech and language therapy and local agencies.

About you | Mōhou ake

**To be successful, you will need**:

- Masters-level tertiary qualification, Post-graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), New Zealand Psychologist Board registration, and a current Practicing Certificate.
- Demonstrable knowledge, experience, and skills in supporting children and young people with severe and challenging behaviours.
- An ability and willingness to work in collaborative partnership with other professionals, agencies, families, and the sector.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with ākonga, whānau and Kaiako across a diverse range of settings.
- Ability to translate practitioner knowledge into practical information to upskill the adults around a child.
- A genuine commitment to evidence-based interventions, which demonstrate inclusive education practice and contribute to raising student achievement.
- Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Applicants must have a valid New Zealand work visa or be working toward obtaining one.
- Applicants must have a full New Zealand drivers’ licence.
- You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga is a frontline group that collectively provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.

Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.

The Horowhenua Kāpiti Centre is a brand-new office in the heart of sunny Paraparaumu. It is located close to all amenities including Coastlands, the railway station, and great cafes.
