Maihan Supermarket & Halal Meat Limited, based in Christchurch is looking to hire 2 butchers. This role is for full time ongoing basis (30 hours minimum) and paid minimum of $30.00 an hour.

Job requirements:
- No formal qualifications are necessary but if you have any that is a bonus.
- Minimum one year of relevant experience in meat processing or a related field.
- Job training will be provided.
- If you follow Islam and have knowledge of halal slaughtering practices - we will have high preference.
- Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks and should possess a strong ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
- Knowledge of safety and hygiene standards is essential to ensure a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Breakdown carcasses and meat cuts from supply rails to processing tables.
- Skilfully cut meat to separate fat, meat, and tissue from bones.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness by washing, scraping, and trimming foreign material and blood from meat.
- Process sides and quarters of meat into standard cuts, such as rumps, flanks, and shoulders, while removing imperfections like internal fat, blood clots, and bruises to prepare them for packing and marketing.
- Operate equipment for restraining and stunning animals in compliance with industry standards and animal welfare regulations.
- Perform precise cuts to sever jugular veins of stunned animals to drain blood and facilitate further processing.
- Remove head meat and sever heads of animals with careful precision.
- Depending on job requirements, may also be responsible for slaughtering livestock following specific religious customs, adhering to Halal practices.

Pay: $30.00 - $31.60 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
