**About the role**

The purpose of the Capability group is to keep the frontline safe, building and enabling their capability and providing a world
- class specialist response service for the organisation.

The National Police Armoury is part of the team within Capability Group and supports the whole of Police through the delivery of a specialist forensic service, support to all Police operational firearms and TASER, expert technical support to Arms Control.

A Police Armourer is responsible for supporting the forensic firearms examinations relating to the investigations of offences, critical incidents, and other firearms related incidents. A Police armourer role also is responsible for evaluating, repairing, and modifying Police service firearms, Tasers on a regular basis and at times they are required to coordinate and conduct technical inspection visits to the police districts.

The successful applicant will be able to logically structure and portray examination findings clearly in written work to a high level, have a strong customer focus with the ability to work as part of a small team.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Prioritisation and delivery that ensure an efficient and effective service provision in the examination of firearms and ammunition
- Timeliness in responding to all service requests
- Preparation and deliver a high standard of expert testimony as required
- Provide technical advice on the classification, and mechanical safety of firearms
- Contribute to the changes, review and maintenance to policies, procedures, and practices nationally with districts, service organisations and other user groups.
- Comply with the processes and practices that comply with a safe working environment.
- Contribute to the culture and behaviours that delivers services that New Zealanders expect and deserve

**Essential skills & qualifications for the role include,**
- Be Senior Armourer Qualified (Military Qualification or equivalent)
- Have recognised NZDF Armourer qualifications of similar
- An extensive knowledge of, and experience working in, an Armoury or equivalent where weapon repairs and maintenance is the primary role.
- Good writing skills and a logical mind
- Ability to learn and use new computer skills
- Hold a full Class 1 Drivers Licence
