**About the Trust**:
Otago Community Trust is a community-responsive charitable trust that grants funds for charitable purposes within the Otago region. The region comprises North Otago, Central Otago, South Otago, Greater Dunedin and the Wānaka ward of the Queenstown Lakes district.
The Trust was established by the Government in 1988 to hold and manage the Trust Bank Otago shares. In 1996 the Trust left banking and the shares were sold to Westpac New Zealand, with the proceeds of the sale invested. This sale provided the Trust with its founding capital of $131 million and since then, the Trust has managed those investments, using a portion of the profits each year to support community groups and projects throughout the Otago region.
Over the last 34 years, the Trust has given back approximately $200 million to Otago communities, with grants ranging in size from small, one-off grants, multi-year and regular grants, and large capital grants for one-off major community projects.
**Values**
- We are accessible, transparent and driven to make a difference;
- We are resilient, courageous and act with integrity, respect and prudence, valuing strong relationships;
- We are committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
- We show leadership, wisdom and empathy.
**Drivers**
To achieve our vision, we will utilise the following drivers:
- **Funding** - Empower communities to realise their potential and goals.
- **Asset Management** - Balance the interests of current and future generations by preserving capital and maximising granting.
- **Organisational Effectiveness** - Ensure we have effective processes and resources to achieve our purpose.
