Permanent or Fixed term - 8 or 12 hours shifts available (multiple roles)
Whanganui Hospital Maternity Unit is classed as a Secondary Maternity Facility, providing three birthing rooms - each have their own birthing pool and 11 inpatient bed units (14 beds in total).
Whanganui Hospital maternity service has a high normal birth rate, long history of water births, low intervention rates, low caesarean rates. We are a small dedicated team with a commitment to providing women with optimal healthcare through women-centred and appropriate clinical assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and education.
Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui serves an estimated population of 68,395 and includes residents of the Whanganui and Rangitikei Territorial Authority areas, as well as the Ruapehu Territorial Authority area wards of Waimarino and Waiouru - known as South Ruapehu.
The community we provide care to is semi-rural - rural with Māori making up 27.3% of our population (compared to the New Zealand average of 16.6%) and small but growing populations of Pacific and Asian people.
Whanganui has something for everyone our centrally located region offers access to outdoor activities such as kayaking, skiing, surfing, tramping, cycling, fishing and hunting. There are a good selection of schools and plenty of areas to take the family out and play. Nestled between 2 snow-capped mountains, on the banks of Whanganui River there is always plenty to do and explore. Whanganui has the best value for money real estate in NZ and has been voted prettiest city. As Wanganui is centrally located access to airports makes travelling nationally and internationally a breeze.
Whanganui Hospital is located in the centre of this beautiful region, our DHB encourages a relaxed and healthy work life balance which is a great reason to consider us.
At Whanganui Hospital we recruit for Ngā Uarātanga (Our Values). Why do we do this? Values-based teams deliver better care. Ngā Uarātanga support each of us to make a difference every day in the things we do and say. Therefore, it's important that when recruiting, we recruit new colleagues who have Ngā Uarātanga that align with ours.
**Ngā Uarātanga**:
**Aroha** - The value of love, respect and empathy, demonstrating compassionate and non-judgemental relationships.
**Kōtahitanga**:
- The value of unity and vision sharing where we demonstrate trust and collaboration.
**Manaakitanga** - The value of respect, support and caring where we demonstrate doing our very best for others.
**Tino Rangatiratanga** - The value of self-determination where we empower individual/whānau choice.
We have positions available for midwives to commence practice within our supportive team of hospital midwives at Whanganui hospital.
We have a comprehensive hospital orientation programme and a Midwife Clinical Coach for support and specific orientation to our maternity service.
If you are an experienced and passionate midwife and currently have a NZ Registration, we would really love to hear from you.
