Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are looking for a consultant liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon to join the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit (NZLTU) and HPB service at Auckland City Hospital.
The NZLTU is a national service providing liver transplantation for the population of 5 million people, and undertakes 55-60 transplants annually, of which 15% are for children. The service is a close collaboration between transplant surgeons and hepatologists who jointly assess, select, list, and provide peri-operative and long term care for liver transplant patients. The NZLTU also acts as a national referral centre for primary liver cancer. The HPB service is part of general surgery and provides tertiary care for a regional population of approximately 1 million people, and undertakes more than 100 liver resections and 40 major pancreatic resections per annum. Auckland City Hospital is co-located with the University of Auckland Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, which hosts one of New Zealand's two medical schools.
The salary offered with this position would depend on the successful applicant's level of experience but would be generous by NZ standards.
