About the organisation
Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui, based at the Whanganui Hospital, is a smaller rural hospital which delivers services to 69,000 people of the Whanganui rohe/region. Our services include general medicine, geriatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, anaesthetics, emergency medicine, mental health and addictions, ophthalmology and ENT. Our primary aim is to ensure the people in our community get the services they need to help them be as healthy and independent as possible.

Mō te tūranga - About the role
It's no secret, change is amongst us here at Te Whatu Ora. We are looking for an Interim Chief Medical Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract while the local leadership structure is finalised.
You will partner with the local and regional leadership teams and other leaders to provide clinical governance for all services within the hospital and across the wider Whanganui health system.
Mōu ake - About you
- You will have demonstrated experience providing thought leadership, policy expertise and advice to inform future decision making that best support the delivery of Te Whatu Ora, regional and local priorities and objectives
- You will enhance the capability of the team through providing coaching and mentoring and quality improvement advice to team members during their day to day work
- You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to effectively interact with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- You will ensure all work reflects our responsibilities to the priority of equity and meeting Treaty of Waitangi obligations
- You must be able to demonstrate that you are registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold a vocational registration in a clinical specialty.
