Company Description
**Te Tākinatanga - Our Story**
We’re on a mission to continue to drive New Zealand’s decarbonisation. Our goal is ambitious, and our investment pipeline includes several capital projects that will undergo a thorough and well-structured front-end engineering process to position them for successful implementation. Those are projects of a different kind like Wind, Batteries, Solar and Geothermal.
To help us pursue our investment pipeline and successfully execute these projects, we’re in need of a Head of Major Projects Project Controls. This is a critical, newly created role which focuses on ensuring we reduce total cost of ownership for new build plants and that our renewable development costs remain leading in the industry.
This role sits in our Major Project Group which is tasked with the job of providing breakthrough project delivery whilst building capability for current and future projects.
**Job Description**:
As Head of Major Projects Project Controls you will be responsible for leading and managing the project controls team. Overseeing the overall planning, scheduling, cost management, risk management and quality assurance across the entire Major Projects group.
You will develop and implement the necessary processes, systems, procedures and guidelines to achieve a world class service. All whilst ensuring we access the necessary digital tools to support high performance.
Coordinating with other project team members, including engineers, contractors, and suppliers will be key to ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety requirements, and project goals are met. Tracking project progress and reporting to project stakeholders and senior management will take place regularly.
This key position has up to six direct reports which you will lead and develop. It sits on the Major Projects leadership team and reports into the Major Projects Director.
Based in the picturesque Taupo, you be part of a fantastic, close knit team who bring a passion to Contact’s vision to help build a better Aotearoa by leading the country’s decarbonisation.
**Qualifications**:
This role requires a thorough understanding of engineering, construction and project management. You’ll be well versed in project controls methodologies and tools. Plus, you’ll also have loads of project controls management experience working in complex project environments.
Bringing a blend of technical + people skills. You are a big believer in collaboration and can talk shop in the team just as comfortably as you can manage and lead others. You have a keen interest in motivating and developing people and taking them on a journey with you.
You will be interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, strong communication (written and oral) skills and creating successful relationships will be key to your success.
Meticulous planning and attention to detail is your forte, you’re able to keep things organised and on track.
The project environment we operate in is complex and continuously evolving so you’ll need to work well under pressure and be comfortable working ‘in the grey’. You are curious, think outside the box and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo or change tact if it improves efficiencies.
We’ll also be looking out for;
- Experience in scheduling and cost management software, such as Primavera P6 and MS Project
- Professional certification with PMI and or AACE
Additional Information
There are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi (employee). Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, you’ll enjoy flexible working, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, discounts on Contact Energy products_, _and more.
