Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
This role is responsible for supporting the development of regulatory advice and content, operational policy, and implementation advice for the forestry, land use, climate change and environmental priorities of Te Uru Rākau-New Zealand Forest Service.
As an Analyst, you will contribute to the delivery of components of the work programme for the Operational Policy - Forestry and Resource Management team including:

- Development of cost-effective and evidence-based analysis and robust advice regarding initiatives and interventions that support sustainable land and forestry management and to maximise the value of forestry products and services.
- Actively contribute to high quality policy advice and other work through regular participation in peer review, policy appraisal, and discussion of issues.
- Contribute to cross-Ministry and cross-agency work programmes to deliver on strategic outcomes.
- Advise on the economic, environmental, social, and cultural impacts of the Operational Policy team's work programme.
- Advise on effective, innovative, and practical implementation approaches to achieve policy objectives and strategic outcomes.
- Support the drafting of regulations and technical standards, discussion documents, guidance, and operational policies, processes, and procedures.

Mōu - About You
To excel in this role, you will have strong analytical and written communication skills, an ability to develop collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders, and a customer-centric work ethic. An understanding of Te Ao Māori and Māori land use and forestry interests, as well as the role of plantation forestry in addressing climate change will be an advantage.
As an Analyst, you will have previous experience working within a government regulatory policy environment and will be able to hit the ground running. Experience with regulatory impact assessments, and Better Rules methodology will be advantageous. A policy, operational policy, or regulatory implementation background is essential.
This role is highly collaborative and involves working closely with our policy staff and partner agencies to develop regulations and operational policies to implement the new provisions in the legislation. It also involves working with forestry stakeholders and Treaty partners to design and deliver new guidance material to help people to understand the changes. This role is dynamic and involves a range of different work streams.

The Operational Policy - Forestry and Resource Management team provides regulatory and operational policy advice to improve forestry and resource management through regulation and other initiatives. The approach is to ensure that government intervention on forest land management is aligned, evidence based, intelligence led, and pragmatic. The team also provides regulatory and operational policy advice as part of a wider programme to help strengthen the integrity of the forestry supply chain.
The team is part of the Forestry System directorate. The directorate covers a wide range of forestry regulatory and operational responsibilities, with a focus on supporting sustainable land management, use of our forestry resources, and New Zealand's climate change responsibilities.
