Chorus is a uniquely regulated organisation within a dynamic industry - Telecommunications. We are one of very few regulated utilities in Aotearoa to have in-house economists.

As a Principal Economist, you will provide economic advice and leadership so Chorus can thrive, creating value for our shareholders, consumers and New Zealand.

You will engage and influence senior stakeholders internally, including the Executive and CEO, and externally, including economic experts, Commission economists and other staff; and, deliver through others to achieve outcomes.

There are three key areas of responsibilities:
**Regulatory **Economics**
- Provide strategic and thought leadership on key economic issues for regulatory matters and wider where required;
- Support the Head of Economic Regulation by providing regular updates to governance groups and the Executive team on economic issues;
- Translate complex economics and regulatory cost modelling concepts into clear, concise, compelling messages;
- Bring a regulatory economic lens and translate and connect with Chorus strategy and market positioning.
- Technical understanding and support on regulatory economic issues, which could include building blocks modelling, weighted average cost of capital, investment decisions or competition.

**L**eadership**
- Play a leadership role in strategic and operational planning to help Chorus to achieve its strategic goals; lead the Economic input into Regulatory strategy and advocacy;
- Deliver through others and have others deliver (without reporting line authorities) to have impact;
- Proactively influence the internal agenda on what’s critical to achieve our objectives.

**Business Compliance**
- Ensure a sound understanding of, demonstrate commitment to and comply with all legislation and the Chorus policy relevant to the position and all activities undertaken in the role.

To be successful in this role, you will have likely worked as an Economist in a similar capacity. You may have been in a consulting environment, worked as an Economist within the utilities sector or perhaps been a regulator within the public sector. To complement your knowledge as an Economist, you will have the ability to communicate and influence a non-technical audience.
