**The Organisation**
Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatū, Horowhenua and Tararua regions. With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.
**The Opportunity**
The respiratory AT position is only accredited for general respiratory training and not Sleep training. However, the respiratory service also attends to patients with sleep disorders. The sleep service staff includes 2 sleep physiologists and one sleep technician and one sleep clinical nurse specialist. The sleep lab can conduct overnight full PSG, in addition to usual. Therefore, the AT will still have opportunity to sleep investigations and managing patients with sleep related disorders. The service also has an accredited lung function laboratory able to conduct all tests including cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The AT will have an opportunity to spend time in the lung function laboratory. In addition to general respiratory clinics and ward work, the registrar will attend procedural sessions which include insertion of long term intrapleural catheters, performing bronchoscopy and also have opportunity to attend EBUS sessions. Palmerston North Hospital also hosts one of the regional lung cancer MDM providing opportunity for the AT to actively participate in the MDM.
Although this is a respiratory AT position, the AT will also participate in the on call general medicine roster.
