We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Department of Surgery and Anaesthesia at the University of Otago, Wellington. You will be involved in a Research Programme focusing on the immune response to surgery, mainly in vascular surgery patients.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

As a Research Assistant within our department, you will help maintain the surgical immunology biobank which includes gaining patient consent at Wellington Hospital (Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast and Hut Valley), collecting specimens from surgery and processing samples. You will be required to liaise with clinicians and researchers to complete these tasks.
- In addition, other duties will include:

- Completing experiments.
- Supporting research students.
- Laboratory maintenance.
- Administration (such as finance and ordering).

Once trained, you will be responsible for the day-to-day independent running of the biobank and assigned experiments with mínimal supervision.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**

Experience in flow cytometry is preferred.

The position requires a high degree of responsibility, exceptional communication skills and self-organisation.

This is a full-time (1.0FTE), fixed term (16 month) position, located in Wellington.

The salary for a Research Assistant is $29.10 per hour.
