**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
We have some exciting opportunities for policy professionals to join our Corporate Governance and Intellectual Property Policy team. This team sits within the Small Business, Commerce and Consumer Policy (SBCCP) branch of the Building Resources and Markets business group.

MBIE’s SBCCP branch is the Government’s lead advisor on the environment in which all New Zealand businesses and consumers operate. We look after the laws and institutions that underpin how businesses and consumers interact with each other including: competition, fair trading and consumer guarantees, financial conduct, corporate governance, intellectual property, and stewardship of the dispute resolution system.

The Corporate Governance and Intellectual Property Policy team is responsible for the corporate governance regulatory system, which governs the ‘lifecycle’ of companies and other entities. We also advise the Government on intellectual property policy matters including trademarks, geographical indications and copyright.

Our team’s work includes advising the Government on the implementation of the new mandatory climate-related disclosures regime. This work will help ensure New Zealand firms consider the effects of climate change when making business decisions, encourage them to demonstrate responsibility and foresight on climate issues and aid our transition to a more sustainable, low emissions economy.

We are looking for advisors who are interested in one or both of our areas of work. Some of the team work across both areas, while others specialise in one.

We have a great culture and team that work collaboratively to get things done. We put a lot of focus on talking to our stakeholders, and our operational partners - the Companies Office and IPONZ. Everyone in the team has the opportunity to lead pieces of work, and attend meetings with the Minister.

**Skills and Experience Required**

For the role of Policy Advisor, ideally you will:

- Be motivated to solving tricky policy problems and formulating high-quality policy and regulatory advice
- Have a good base of experience in public policy as a Policy Advisor or transferrable skills from an advisory, legal or similar role
- Be a logical thinker, problem solver, and have a healthy level of curiosity
- Bring knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- Enjoy working on tricky problems, generating ideas and coming up with solutions
- Have or want to improve your cultural capability and knowledge of te ao Māori, te reo Māori and how Te Tiriti o Waitangi informs our work
- Have the ability to build relationships with others and work collaboratively
- Have the ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results
