Service Manager, Medical Services - 3 to 6 months Interim
- The Lakes District services a population of 115,000 people and covers the areas from Rotorua to Tongariro National Park including Taupo/Turangi.
The Service Manager Medical Services reports to the Group Director Operations for Te Whatu Ora Lakes and is responsible for the operational performance of the Medical Service across the Lakes District, ensuring the delivery of high quality services that meet patient care requirements effectively and efficiently. The role will work in partnership with the Clinical Director and HOD for Medical Services. As a member of the Lakes management team you will contribute at a senior level and be involved in multiple initiatives across the organisation.
- Key attributes in the appointee include:
- Demonstrates strong operational skills and background in hospital management
- A strong commitment and knowledge of clinical quality is essential
- Has understanding and commitment to community-based and integrated service delivery across acute, chronic and long term care.
- Works collaboratively with teams, building and networking skills and engaging with external providers and agencies as required.
- A strong commitment to Māori health and equity of outcomes
- Strong accountability with a focus on performance.
- Strong financial, budgetary and performance management skills
- Strong ability to develop and implement robust business cases around service management and capex
- A background as a health clinician is highly desirable but not essential
- This is an excellent opportunity to manage and develop services within two highly functional hospitals. The role is based in Rotorua and offers the benefits of a modern city with great restaurants, tourism and a reputation for adventure activities. You will be living in affordable housing amongst lakes, mountains, rivers, bush with mountain biking on the town boundary, and within easy reach of beaches and skiing.
- The successful appointee will work in partnership with inter-sectoral providers, community stakeholders, iwi and other Lakes and regional managers to maximise the provision of clinically appropriate services in the Rotorua and Taupō regions.
- The applicant will be focused on robust operational performance, and continuous improvement. The successful applicant will be able to balance this with change management, managing forward planning and developing robust business cases where appropriate. The role is challenging and rewarding and well supported by a team of committed, passionate and professional staff. For managers currently working large tertiary hospitals, the role offers much wider exposure to the full range of hospital services and management as part of the district service manager team.
