He angitūtanga | About the role
How would you like to be part of a team looking after some of Aotearoa's most treasured flora and fauna species, working amongst some of Aotearoa's most stunningly scenic sites? Enjoy a diverse role where no two days are the same.
The role is varied and draws together the different components of departmental work (recreation, historic, biodiversity and community engagement). You will need to be a self-motivated person that can operate well both in an isolated environment and as part of a team.
Day to day the role will include a mix of relationship building; internally, externally and then developing a regional pest control plan. You will also lead delivery for this plan. Successful implementation of your work programme will depend upon your ability to establish and sustain strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders. You will work in true partnership with stakeholders and the community.

**The position will be focussed on**:

- working with treaty partners to be an honourable treaty partner and achieve shared conservation outcomes
- developing and leading delivery of a region-wide pest control programme
- building and maintaining relationships with iwi/whanau/hapu involved in the project
- being the key contact for stakeholders and conservation partners involved in the project
- working with local landowners to achieve conservation outcomes on private land
- knowledge of animal and plant pest control programmes
- management of contractors.

This appointment requires an individual with excellent interpersonal skills and a natural ability to form enduring relationships. You will be comfortable working in partnership with a broad range of internal staff, local community, imi/iwi and external visitors. You will be a practical person with a wide range of skills who can forward think.

- A self-starter who is responsible for all aspects of the work programme.
- High level project management skills.
- Financial management skills.
- Stellar interpersonal and communication skills.
- Confidence developing and managing endangered species and pest control programmes.
- Political nous.
- A reasonable level of physical fitness.
- Contractor management experience.
- Ability to adhere to strict Health, Safety and Wellbeing systems.
- Proficient in the use of a wide variety of computer software programmes for example Microsoft programmes -Word, Excel and Outlook.

**Required**:

- A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in planning large scale projects, building and maintaining high level relationships with stakeholders, treaty partners and conservation partners.
- Full New Zealand Driver Licence.

The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement, iwi partners and visitor centre teams.

The salary range for this position is $66,535.00 - $83,906.00, with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
