- Bring your experience and enthusiasm for HV Power System Protection
- Work with leading Transmission technical experts who freely share their knowledge

**Join our team where on-the-job development is a key focus. Collaborate towards a more reliable and sustainable energy future for Aotearoa**

New Zealand's electricity system is unique. The national grid is connected by an HVDC-link between our two main islands, with a large amount of renewable energy generated in the South and a growing load requirement in the North. Over the next 5 years we will more than double the investment to replace existing protection and automation assets, support new generation and load growth, and advance our transition to a renewable energy economy.

**About the team**

Our Operational Engineering Group in the Grid Delivery division provides real-time engineering support and advice for issues on the grid, and engages with the wider business to facilitate improvements in our standard designs and processes. The team works collaboratively to monitor and review the condition, capability, compliance, and performance of transmission protection assets.

Operational Protection and Automation provides advice, training, and support for grid operations and maintenance (including working with our Service Providers), and reviews and provides feedback on policies and standards for design, procurement, condition assessment, maintenance, spares, and replacement of grid protection and automation.

Working in partnership with our colleagues in Tactical Engineering in Grid Development, we also support and help to enable future focused projects.

**About the opportunity**

You'll provide regional engineering support for New Zealand's national grid and in a geographically dispersed group of protection professionals who are the experts in operational protection issues. You'll also have the opportunity to be the lead project engineer for projects as a part of your development.

This role may be located in Transpower's Auckland Otara office, our Waikoukou head-office in Wellington, or with our whanau in Islington, Christchurch.

You'll enjoy varied work, engage internally across Transpower and externally with Engineering Design Consultants, Service Providers, and customers. No two days are the same and you'll be encouraged to further your professional and personal development with support from industry leading experts.

**What you'll bring**

Outstanding communication and influencing skills and a love of primarily office-based operational work i.e. dealing with faults, outages, queries from the field, spares management, fixing bugs with existing settings, etco ensure we keep the lights on and future proof the transmission grid for generations to come.

Your career to date, CV, and cover letter will demonstrate:

- Knowledge and understanding of high voltage power systems, protection systems, electricity regulations and codes, transmission plant and equipment
