Toy Librarian

The North Shore Community Toy Library is a not-for-profit looking for a passionate toy librarian with leadership and problem solving skills. Our library is a community resource that loans out toys to member families with children aged up to 7 years old. We are looking for someone friendly, reliable and detail oriented who can be a caring custodian for our extensive library of toys.
The librarian role involves running 1 weekly session on Sundays from 1.30 pm - 5.30 pm alongside volunteers plus approximately 5 hours of administration at home. You would be looking at 10 hours a week, occasionally a few more. We have a second librarian who covers the Wednesday and Saturday sessions.If practical, we’d like you to work on a Wednesday evening (6-9pm) with our other Librarian for training adn if volunteers are not available - this is negotiable.
This position is very fulfilling, and perfect for someone looking for a purposeful way to spend their time and get involved in the community. Ideally, you’d be willing to commit to the role for at least a year.
To be successful in this role, the Librarian will have a passion for toys, great customer service skills, excellent attention to detail, an ability to work independently, and computer skills.
Key tasks are:
- Sign up and induct new members.
- Responsible for operating the library sessions: Opening and closing, set up the room, record lending and returning of toys and manage toys returned broken or with missing pieces.
- Oversee and support volunteers helping in our open sessions.
- Monitor usage of toys and pass along suggestions from parents about new or popular toys to the Committee.
- Oversee preparation of new/donated toys and input the details into the computer system
- Follow up with members on overdue toys/fees and then escalate to Committee if necessary.
- Ensure rules of the library are upheld and where appropriate escalate complaints or issues to the Committee.
- Liaise with member with kindness on questions and regarding probles such as late fees in keeping with Committee agreed principles and philosophy. Refer complaints/appeals to the Committee for decision.
- Attend monthly Committee meetings and provide a written report
- Keep our library computer records up to date
- Be responsible for the handling of membership fees, fees and fines as required by the Treasurer and passing these onto the Treasurer along with an account of the transactions
- Provide information to members of the public who approach the toy library regarding membership
- Distribute any information as directed by the Committee, e.g. rosters, newsletters
- Assist the Roster Coordinator with the co-ordination of rosters and duty members
- Support the Committee with organising and running fundraising events
- Assist with the annual stocktake
- Complete a yearly report for the Committee to be presented at the AGM in February or March
- Oversee facilities maintenance
Laptop is provided for use on session and at home.
The Toy Library is open year round apart from Easter and a month over the Christmas/New Year holidays when we are closed.
