**Job Description**:
The Software Engineer designs and maintains software and firmware for all Tekron products. The role is involved in resolving software or firmware issues or bugs that disrupt product performance or affect product functionality from a customer’s expectation, as well as, the design of software or firmware for new products or improvement of the current products. The role is expected to adhere to software development standards, adopt current software industry best practices, and ensure that the software in Tekron products meet published specifications and/or customer expectations. The role collaborates closely with the Test Engineer and System Architect to ensure that developed scripts undergo peer review and that appropriate test scripts are developed to fully test the software or firmware according to industry standards and Tekron product specifications and functionality.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, maintain and improve the Software Defect Management Process
- Develop and maintain software/firmware for the range of Tekron products. Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
- Take technical responsibility for all stages and/or iterations in a software development project, providing method-specific technical advice and guidance to project stakeholders.
- Liaise with Test Engineer and System Architect in defect risk and impact assessment.
- Adhere to software development standards, involvement with developing these standards.
- Produce detailed designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
- Monitor and report on the progress of development projects, ensuring that projects are carried out in accordance with agreed standards, methods and procedures (including secure software development).
- Estimate software development time and resource to address reported bug or new feature
- Develop functional description specifications.
- Specification of appropriate hardware platforms.
- Comply with Engineering Change Management requirements
- Ensure software or firmware changes undergo proper peer review
- Perform Unit Testing to ensure functionality of revised code
- Draft software release notes, as needed
- Promote the benefits of addressing all security issues during solution development and ensures secure development improvement practices.
- Identify, propose, and initiate software process improvement activities within the organisation, devising solutions.
- Take action to exploit opportunities that will have a measurable effect on process effectiveness, with associated benefits to the business.
- Provide regular updates of software or firmware fixes to the Customer Support Team and Sales Team to keep customers informed of the progress
- Liaise with sales team on a regular basis to ensure that planned development meets their requirements and to advise on changes or improvements.
- Adhere to all company processes, policies and procedures with regards to health and safety, administration, quality and project management.
- Assist the Test Engineer in the development of software tests
- Provide on-site firmware support to production personnel of the contract manufacturer, as needed
