We have an exciting opportunity available at Haumaru Ōrite, and we are looking for a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to join our dynamic team.

As a Mental Health Assistant (MHA), your role will encompass working collaboratively, under the guidance of Registered Nurses, to deliver high-quality care to individuals experiencing distress.

Providing support to rangitahi, whanau and mama’s to care for their for pepe. You will have an understanding of person centred and trauma informed care and provide support to whaiora and have the ability to build rapport and trust which is central to developing the therapeutic relationship. Under the direction and delegation of the registered nurse, your responsibilities will also include; assisting with activities of daily living, actively engaging whaiora in group activities for example; team sports, as well as creative arts and crafts activities. As a crucial team member, you will also play a vital role in maintaining the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the ward and support the whaiora to do this also.

Haumaru Ōrite is a supra-regional acute psychiatric child and adolescent mental health inpatient unit hosted by Auckland District Health Board. It is located on level one of Starship Children's Hospital.

Within the same facility Haumaru Ōrite also houses a specialist three-bedded Mother and Baby Unit which provides inpatient care to people living in Waitemata, Auckland, Counties Manukau and Northland.

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**

This role requires ability to work directly with service users and their families. To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate high levels of personal integrity, flexibility, with an ability to work closely with service users and their families while under supervision of a Registered Nurse.

It is imperative you have an ability to work in a team and have an understanding of mental illness and its effects on service users and their families. Fluency in both written and verbal English is essential.

Availability to work rostered shifts is required to ensure 24-hour care is provided 40hrs per week, Monday to Sunday. Availability to work all shifts, including nights, is essential.
