We are seeking an IBCLC certified Lactation Consultant and BFHI Coordinator, who preferably holds a current midwifery or nursing APC. You will have experience working with the BFHI standards and bring to this role extensive experience working with breastfeeding wāhine, pepe and their whānau. Ideally, you will display good communication
and interpersonal skills, enjoy the experience of working within a multidisciplinary team providing a caring, safe and clean environment for new whānau and their pepe.

Whanganui Hospital Maternity Unit is classed as a Secondary Maternity Facility, providing three birthing rooms - each have their own birthing pool and 11 inpatient bed units (14 beds in total).
Whanganui Hospital maternity service has a high normal birth rate, long history of water births, low intervention rates, low caesarean rates. We are a small dedicated team with a commitment to providing women with optimal healthcare through women-centred and appropriate clinical assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and education.
The Whanganui District Health Board serves an estimated population of 68,395 and includes residents of the Whanganui and Rangitikei Territorial Authority areas, as well as the Ruapehu Territorial Authority area wards of Waimarino and Waiouru - known as South Ruapehu.
The community we provide care to is semi-rural - rural with Māori making up 27.3% of our population (compared to the New Zealand average of 16.6%) and small but growing populations of Pacific and Asian people.
