**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**JOB TITLE**

**Refuge Coordinator - Auckland**

**PURPOSE**

To facilitate best practice service for the support and empowerment of ethnic women and children in domestic violence situations; To promote the right for ethnic women to live free from fear and violence; To provide crisis intervention support services to ethnic women victims of domestic violence, and their children, at the Safehouse

**Maintain the principles of management at Shakti**:

- Awareness and acceptance that Shakti is part of the New Zealand woman’s refuge movement and carries with it a feminist perspective centered around the empowerment of women.
- That Shakti continues to advocate and rally against all forms of discrimination, racism, abuse and violence
- Our core work of eliminating violence against women and children is adhered to, voiced publicly, and enhanced
- Asian, African and Middle Eastern women and children are able to lead violence-free, self
- reliant lives
- That Shakti adheres to the principles of Te Tiriti and cordial and supportive relationships with Tangata Whenua continue to be maintained

**To organise and perform day-to-day running of the Safe House, assessing and meeting the needs of clients, to facilitate best practice in the safety and empowerment of ethnic women and children who have left domestic violence situations**.
- To develop and implement action plans for clients in coordination with Women Advocates and assign cases.
- To create and sustain and disseminate cultural awareness about various ethnic communities and promote cross-cultural understanding between communities.
- To organise programs in line with planned service delivery and strategic direction of the organisation. To develop and run community workshops, and seminars
- to reduce violence in the community and increase community awareness.
- To actively advocate and promote the right for ethnic women to lead lives of dignity, free from violence.
- To maintain the existing network and develop a new network.
- To take initiative for fundraising by working closely with National Office and Management

**SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Functional relationships within the organization**:
Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager, Social Workers, Case Workers, Local Site Team members, Administrators, Crisis Line, Shakti Branches Counsellors, Lawyers, Staff and Volunteers,

CRM, SDETAT Life Skills Programme

**Functional relationships outside the organization**:
Ethnic communities, clients, Police, community service providers, health providers, funders, educational Institutes, Housing providers, Work and Income New Zealand

**This role reports to**:
Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager

**Key Tasks**

**Overall management of the Refuge**

▪ Ensuring Client and service Confidentiality, Crisis Management, Risk management

▪ Ensuring Refuge provides safety and empowerment-based services to clients.

▪ Ensuring that regular checks are in place to monitor the efficiency of the Safehouse: o Safehouse hygiene and maintenance standards kept o Weekly grocery shopping o House / household appliances upgrade when required o Maintenance (e.g. spring cleaning and shampooing of carpets)

▪ Ensure the administrative duties are carried out, e.g. Preparing monthly/annual reports as and when required

▪ Ensure that team meetings are held to discuss day-to-day operations

▪ Liaise with Social Workers to identify client needs whilst in Safehouse, including scheduling non
- advocacy trips to work and Income

▪ Planning transportation needs for training and other trips to medical centres, etc. for clients.

▪ Efficient individual client intake and assessment is done at all times

▪ Client needs are identified and an agreed plan of action is executed and followed up.

▪ Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

▪ Ensuring all client data is entered on the Exess database system.

▪ When required attend to clients’ needs

▪ Culturally appropriate referrals are made if required

▪ Maintain the organisation’s QA Standard in line with Shakti’s policy

▪ Work in partnership with other team members and Regional Refuge Service Delivery

Manager to access and monitor Clients' cases.

**Advocacy**
- Advocating for clients with various government departments, Police, justice system, etc. And ensure that clients receive adequate support for cases.
- Advocacy with clients: (includes assisting clients in Social welfare, Housing, Immigration,

Justice, Schooling, and Education)
- Advocacy should be based on the empowerment model, However, where safety is a concern, due consideration should be given and policies followed to ensure maximum safety.

**Police Meeting_: _** Regional interagency Police meeting attendance. Exess Database updated regularly

**Child Access**:In joint custody, the Child will require support from the Refuge to attend to Child access.
