We are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.

We are part of Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. Te Whatu Ora leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.

**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The Molecular Infectous Diseases Unit is a high workload area that covers qualitative and quantitative detections, genotyping, and drug resistance testing of a wide range of microorganisms on different clinical specimens. This Unit has had a significant contribution in SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing in New Zealand during the COVID pandemic.

This is a full time position. This position requires flexibility as you will be participating in a 24/7 roster and on-calls with the expectation to be available for early, afternoon and late shifts Monday -Sunday with appropriate rostered days off.

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications and skills:

- Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- Knowledge, experience, and understanding of Molecular Diagnostics methodologies
- Proficiency in Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing techniques is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
- Strong attention to detail and time management with a focus on quality
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and busy environment
