He angitūtanga | About the role
As Senior Ranger Biodiversity, you will lead the implementation of work programmes that contribute to positive biodiversity conservation outcomes in a diverse range of ecosystems across Tairāwhiti. These work programmes include wild animal control, wildlife response, threatened species, pest management and marine reserves.
Within the role you will be responsible for the planning, prioritisation, monitoring and financial management of the district's biodiversity programme, ensuring it aligns with and effectively contributes to local, regional and national priorities.
A key function of this role is providing support and advice to the Operations Manager and district team of kaimahi; working in collaboration with the district leadership team members and technical experts to provide strategic input and operational guidance that enables the success of the whole district's programme of work. The Senior Ranger also plays a crucial role in maintaining high level stakeholder relationships with tangata whenua, regional and district councils, and other external agencies.

This role is very future focussed, you must be able to plan adaptively for long term success of the programmes and ensure the team you work with are supported to deliver on these goals. Your ability to think strategically and act operationally will contribute to the successful planning and scheduling of work programmes across the district.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- Knowledge and experience in biodiversity and ecosystem management
- Excellent planning, prioritisation, organisation skills
- A proven ability to work with others and manage relationships (i.e. community groups, landowners, regional councils)
- Ability and willingness and experience in working closely with tangata whenua
- Skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff with the acquisition of technical knowledge
- Excellent budget and financial management skills and experience
- Excellent communication skills, including a high level of written communication
- Proven resilience, with ability to keep calm under pressure while managing high profile work
- Contract and project management experience
- Experience in operating online system software
- A strong commitment to safety and wellbeing in the workplace
- Full New Zealand driver licence.

The salary range for this position is $77,336 to $97,708 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
