Junior Multimedia Journalist

You will have a strong news sense and ability to find and produce high-quality journalism across a range of topics, from court, crime and council, to human interest stories and issues that will engage our audience across the region and, importantly, all of New Zealand.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Journalism skills**:

- Generate unique and compelling story ideas to create content that beats the competition and wins audiences.
- Build a strong network of contacts and story sources, together with good local knowledge and a wide awareness of news and current topics of interest.
- Deliver complete, error-free packages;
- When filing for digital/print, include multiple images, video, SEO headlines, related links, social embeds, classifications, tagging and other elements as required. Capture images and video for your own reports when needed and save images into archive systems as instructed.
- Ensure premium content is thoroughly planned and well-executed.
- Help promote NZME’s web and social presence, e.g. provide live social coverage during breaking news events and amplify your own and colleagues’ stories over social channels.

**Planning and organisational skills**:

- Work quickly and efficiently, managing time and prioritising to meet all deadlines.
- With support and training, act as News Director when required.
- Operate with an NZME-wide mentality, fostering strong communication between the group’s newsrooms and ensuring all needs of the network are met.

**ABOUT YOU**:

- You’ll have a relevant qualification and at least one years’ experience in newsroom environment.
- You’ll be comfortable in print / digital / broadcasting environments.
- You’ll be an effective communicator, relating confidently to internal and external stakeholders.
- Be adaptable in dealing with change.
