**Location: Rotorua (bay of plenty)**

**Salary: $30 - $33**

**Working Hours: Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5 PM**

**Minimum of 30 Hrs to Maximum 40 Hrs**

The primary responsibility of a Forest Technician is to help forests and the wildlife inhabiting them thrive. To achieve this, they usually complete the following Forest Technician job duties:

- Gathering and analyzing plant samples to check for signs of pests and disease
- Implementing plans for addressing pest and disease outbreaks
- Identifying forest fire risks and taking steps to mitigate them
- Collecting Data information
- Writing reports that share test results and observations made during inspections
- Presenting results in graphic and written form by preparing maps, charts, sketches, diagrams and reports
- Controlling the quality and quantity of samples.
- Assessing the damage caused by fires and helping with cleanup and repair efforts
- Ensuring that campers and visitors adhere to all park rules and regulations
- Educating the public about forest fire prevention and fire safety
- and Taking Measurements of tress
- Measure standing trees in forest plots using tape measures
- Collect a variety of measurements such as tree diameter, height and pruning height

**Forest Technician skills and qualifications**
- The applicant must have 3 years of relevant work experience or should have Level 5 Diploma qualification or higher
- Ability to move safely over rough, uneven terrain and to travel over long distances
- Interpersonal skills to enforce rules with authority and deescalate confrontations
- Project management skills to oversee and coordinate responses to pests, diseases and fire
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to use precision scientific equipment and maneuver heavy loads of supplies and samples
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to educate the public, collaborate with coworkers and compile reports
