**Our vision**: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa
The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whānau, hapū and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.
Tō tātou taiāo. Tō tātou hītori. He tāonga tūturu nō Aotearoa. Maioha rawatia. Poipoia rawatia. Tukua.
Our nature. Our history. It's New Zealand's unique legacy. Enjoy it. Enrich it. Pass it on.
He angitūtanga | About the role
The Hauraki Gulf Marine Park is New Zealand's first marine park, and the only national park of the sea in Aotearoa. Covering 1.4 million hectares of ocean, it's more than 20 times the size of Lake Taupō. It includes the Waitematā Harbour, Gulf Islands, Firth of Thames and the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. It is the seabird capital of the world, and a whale superhighway. It's also intensively used and on the doorstep of our most populated city.
The proposed Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill will give effect to new marine protection areas that aim to improve the marine health of the Gulf. It will be bespoke legislation, the first of its kind in Aotearoa, and is part of the wider Revitalising the Gulf programme.
Reporting to the Operations Manager of the newly formed Auckland Marine Team, you will be supporting multiple DOC teams to undertake communications and engagement with iwi, hapū and whānau for Revitalising the Gulf. Working in partnership with mana whenua to achieve improved outcomes for conservation is a key priority for this role and you will be able to showcase your engagement and relationship skills.
You will have the opportunity to provide advice, support and coaching on Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori. As part of the District Leadership team, you will work with other Senior Rangers and Supervisors to plan priorities for the district.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

DOC is reliant on having someone with excellent knowledge of the Treaty landscape to effectively deliver on the Revitalising the Gulf strategy and support work to embed DOC's integrated strategy to become an honourable Treaty partner.
We are looking for a natural people leader who is passionate about supporting a positive team culture. You will have great communication and engagement skills, as well as a heightened sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

If you have many of the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- Strong people skills with a focus on achieving results through effective collaboration and relationship-building.
- Proficient in using or learning systems and processes in large organisations or government agencies.

- Experienced in working with iwi, hapū, and whānau, and building lasting relationships.
- Skilled in coaching others to enhance cultural competency.
- Excellent planning, organisation, and communication skills.
- Resilient under pressure, with a strong focus on health and safety.
