We are Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children's Hospital, located in central Auckland.
Starship Child Health is a dedicated paediatric healthcare service and major teaching centre, providing family centred care to neonates, children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific. Starship is a part of Auckland DHB and is the only comprehensive children's hospital in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 1 million children. Auckland DHB is NZ's largest public tertiary hospital which has strong ties with University of Auckland and provides extensive teaching and training opportunities.
Starship's PICU is the only dedicated 24 bed paediatric intensive care/high dependency care unit in NZ. We support all inpatient medical and surgical services and provide care to children from around NZ who require respiratory support for more than 24 hours.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The unit is friendly and has a supportive environment. As Nurse Educator you need to have strong interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to work collaboratively and innovatively within a large multidisciplinary team.
You will be required to develop and provide focused paediatric educational programs that are underpinned with evidence, patient safety and a strong child and family focus. This role is required to contribute to Starship Children's Health education development and delivery.
You will be able to foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation, and be committed to the professional development of the nursing team, being able to build on the nurse's existing knowledge and provide opportunities for advancement of clinical skills in paediatric nursing.
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
- be a registered nurse and will either have or be eligible for registration with NZ Nursing Council
- be an experienced Paediatric Nurse who understands the Intensive Care Environment with minimum of 3 years clinical experience
- have a sound knowledge of clinical teaching and learning methods
- have a strong commitment to quality healthcare
- be capable of working independently and within a team
- have well-developed communication, critical thinking skills and a commitment to family centred care
- have a passion for paediatric nursing preferably with some experience in Intensive Care nursing within the New Zealand Health system
- have an understanding of Te Toka Tumai Auckland professional development programme
