Are you a hands-on person that loves the water and being outdoors? We have two (2) great opportunities for Bathing Water Technicians to work with our Laboratory and Sampling Services team, helping collect samples for our bathing water monitoring programme. Come join us and help look after our environment for the future.
There are two (2) full-time, fixed-term roles available for a period of six (6) months, from October 2024 through to March 2025. Both roles are based in Whakatāne and will require regular travel within the Bay of Plenty region to various sampling sites.
**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role**
As a Bathing Water Technician, you will be undertaking essential sampling work over the busy summer period to monitor water quality at recreational bathing water sites across the Bay of Plenty. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Collecting water samples at coastal and inland recreational bathing water sites across the Bay of Plenty.
- Prompt reporting of results to public health, local authorities, LAWA and our own website.
- Client service delivery.
- Ensuring the collection and reporting service through some of the Christmas holidays.
- Other relevant duties, as assigned.
**Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience**
We’re seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about the environment and who may be looking to kick-start their career in water science or gain relevant experience. You will have:
- NCEA Level 2 or equivalent. It would also be advantageous if you are studying, or looking to study, towards a Level 6 Diploma in a science related discipline (preferred).
- A reasonable level of physical fitness.
- Current driver's licence and sound driving skills (full licence preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and great team ethic.
- Experience with electronic document management systems would be ideal, but not essential.
