Casual Pou Tikanga
**Casual**:
- **Application Closes 19 Apr 2024**:
- **Waikato - Hamilton City**:
- **Area, Ethnic, and Cultural Studies Teacher, Postsecondary**
E whakawhiti atu ai i Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa me ōna māra kai, te ngāwhā whakatupu ake o te whenua mōmona, hei kawe ki Ngāruawāhia, te huinga o te tangata.
Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa Marae takes its name from the surrounding area, famous for its rich, fertile lands and gardens that linked the network of Waikato sub-tribes (hapū) who lived along the banks of the Waikato River. The design is a contemporary version of traditional aspects with an emphasis on matauranga Māori (learning) and tikanga (customs and traditions).
Our Marae pays tribute to our mana whenua, and particularly the late Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, whose support for Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa Marae was instrumental in its’ design and opening in 2012.
Join the Wintec team and become a part of our mission to strengthen communities through education, research, and industry development. We are dedicated to providing the best education, state-of-the-art facilities, and cutting-edge technology to students locally, nationally, and worldwide.
As the Casual Pou Tikanga at Te Koopuu Maania o Kirikiriroa Marae, your role is vital in ensuring the seamless adherence to cultural protocols and practices during significant events such as pōwhiri, whakatau, and paepae ceremonies. You will uphold the marae's kawa on a casual basis, particularly during weekends or occasionally throughout the week. If you value working collaboratively and have the expertise and experience to uphold cultural protocols and practices, ensuring the seamless adherence to tikanga Māori during marae ceremonies, we are keen to hear from you.
This position is a casual position. To be eligible for consideration, you will:
- Have an advanced understanding of tikanga Māori and traditional customs.
- Demonstrate experience in facilitating cultural protocols in alignment to Waikato Kawa during marae ceremonies.
- Be available to work flexible hours, primarily on weekends or occasionally during the week.
- Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Display a commitment to upholding and respecting cultural traditions.
Ideally you will also:
- Have prior experience working in a similar role within a marae or cultural setting.
- Possess a relevant qualification in Mātauranga Māori, or a related field.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Show a willingness to continuously learn and adapt to evolving cultural practices.
- Maintain strong relationships with local manawhenua, Māori organizations, and the community.
