**This is an exciting opportunity to work as an Advanced Clinician along the Stroke pathway within the Speech-Language Therapy Team**:
**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The advanced clinician provides an advanced level of practice and expertise in Speech-Language Therapy, both in direct care delivery, service improvement and in support to other staff.

The primary purpose of the role is to:

- Proactively work on a complex caseload delivering high quality evidence based clinical care
- Collaborate Nationally and Internationally with National Stroke Networks toward evidence-based pathways in line with recognised stroke guidelines to address the needs of patients and their whānau as they navigate their stroke journey
- Assess and manage patients with swallowing or communication needs along the stroke pathway within Taiao Ora (our Integrated Stroke Unit) and at times from Critical Care Settings into rehabilitation in Taiao Ora.
- Collaborate with team members and other work groups to achieve service objectives
- Supervise and coach students and staff
- Develop positive working relationships with our clients and their whānau as well as with the interdisciplinary team and regional and national stakeholders
- Commit to continued professional development and continually strive for improved patient care and experience

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**

As the **ideal person for this role** you will have the following skills and attributes:

- A minimum of 8 years’ experience including equivalent of 4 years full time experience within the area of specialty
- Registered member of the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA) with current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Proven experience working as a Speech-Language Therapist in acute hospital stroke units, neuro-rehabilitation units and critical care settings
- An understanding of bicultural issues and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
- Evidenced competencies in FEES, video fluoroscopy, tracheostomy +- ventilator dependent population competencies
- Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
- Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The Speech-Language Therapy (SLT) team, work across a range of specialist areas including **stroke, oncology, haematology, neurosurgery, head & neck, cancer and cardiovascular intensive care**. We work in a range of extended scope of practice areas including FEES, VFSS, and tracheostomy management. This role will be allocated to the stroke pathway and Taiao Ora (integrated Stroke Unit).
