Policy Adviser (Foreign and Security Policy), NZHC London

The New Zealand High Commission in London is recruiting a Policy Adviser (Foreign and Security Policy).

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
This is an exciting and demanding role responsible for some of the most important security and foreign policy issues managed by the New Zealand High Commission. This is a unique opportunity to pursue and promote Aotearoa New Zealand’s values and interests in the United Kingdom.

**Responsibilities include the following**:

- Timely and insightful reporting - with a focus on foreign policy and security policy issues.
- Representing or advocating New Zealand's position to UK Government and other contacts.
- Displaying strong networking skills - gaining influence and information by building robust, respectful, mutually beneficial, and trusting relationships.
- Engaging effectively with UK government departments as well as think-tanks and the academic community.
- Leading preparation of briefing for official meetings by senior staff and writing reports of those meetings.
- Providing policy and logístical support to visits by Ministers and senior officials.

This is a locally employed position, with terms and conditions being set in accordance with UK employment regulations. The High Commission does not provide assistance with accommodation or airfares.

Starting salary is likely to be offered between £40,000 and £47,000 depending on experience.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? - Who are we looking for?

**The successful applicant should have**:

- Tertiary qualification as a minimum and 2-5 years relevant work experience, including developing policy advice.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to build, maintain and leverage effective relationships
- Ability to think critically and analytically, to anticipate issues and problems, and think of creative and effective solutions
- Full understanding of New Zealand culture, and sound appreciation of New Zealand interests in the United Kingdom.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, including ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work under pressure.
